ICM Registry Reports .XXX Applications Exceed Expectations

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — ICM Registry reported today that it has received more than 42,000 applications for .XXX domain names since the Sept. 7 launch of the Sunrise Period.

With only five days remaining in Sunrise, during which all registered brand and trademark holders can purchase their corresponding domain names, the number of applications already received is over five times what ICM had anticipated, the company said.

“We are very pleased, but not surprised, by this overwhelming response to the availability of .XXX domains,” said Stuart Lawley, CEO of ICM Registry. “The applications have been well balanced between brand owners inside the adult industry and those non-adult brands that want to protect their trademarks.”

The Sunrise period ends this Friday, Oct. 28, leaving qualified brand owners who have not yet exercised their Sunrise rights with five days to do so.

Once the Sunrise period expires, any brand owners who want to secure their corresponding .XXX domain name will have to do so through the same process as the other general applicants.

The first opportunity to apply for .XXX domain names for members of the adult entertainment industry who did not qualify as trademark or brand holders during Sunrise, will be the 17-day Landrush period, beginning on Nov 8.

General Availability of all remaining .XXX domain names will begin on Dec. 6.
